January
13, 2010: MetLife's "Snoopy 2" To Soar The Alpena Skies!
MetLife has agreed to bring its "Snoopy 2" airship to Alpena for an appearance at Wings Over Alpena August 20-22!
About The MetLife Blimps
“Snoopy One” was launched in Tampa, Florida in February, 1994. “Snoopy Two” was launched from Hillsboro, Oregon in October, 1993. The primary difference between the two blimps is their geographic regions of operation; “Snoopy Two” spends the winter months on the West Coast touring California, Nevada and Arizona. While “Snoopy One” spends the winter and spring months in Florida, Georgia and Texas.
Neither MetLife blimp requires the use of a home base. Together, “Snoopy One” and “Snoopy Two” combine to travel approximately 120,000 miles a year throughout the United States. Traveling with each MetLife blimp is a dedicated 14 member crew: two pilots and twelve crewmen. The ground crew includes electronic engineers, mechanics, licensed radio technicians, and riggers. In addition to these highly specialized personnel, each MetLife blimp operation requires five ground support vehicles; to move the blimp and crew from one location to the next.
The primary focus of the blimp program is providing aerial coverage of sporting and special events. In a typical year, “Snoopy One” and “Snoopy Two” cover approximately 70 events for a variety of networks including NBC, CBS, ABC, ESPN and TGC. The blimps can be seen capturing shots of events ranging from the US Open and PGA Championship, to NFL football games across the country. In between television commitments, “Snoopy One” and “Snoopy Two” support local MetLife promotions with special fly overs for clients and employees.
December 5, 2009: Book Your Dream Ride Today!
If you've ever watched an air show performance and dreamed of an opportunity to "do that", here's your chance!
We
are now booking two different rides which will take place between August 19
& August 22, 2010. The first is a 15-minute aerobatic ride with one of our
2010 performers, Billy Werth of Grayout Aerosports. For $125 you can climb
in the cockpit with Billy and find out what it's like to be on an unlimited
"roller coaster" ride! Visit Billy's website at
www.grayout.com to get
an idea of what you can expect!

For those a bit more sentimental, we will be offering rides in the Yankee Air Museum's B-25 "Mitchell" bomber, the "Yankee Warrior". This aircraft saw action in World War II in missions over Siciliy and the Brenner Pass. The Warrior spent time in Great Britain and the Royal Canadian Air Force before being sold to a private owner. The aircraft is the only flying B-25D-35 today and one of a select few with documented combat history. A 30-minute ride is available in the aircraft for $400.
A portion of the proceeds of each ride are returned to the Wings Over Alpena operating fund. For more information contact Phil Agius at phil@wingsoveralpena.com.
November 17, 2009: Charter Communications To Sponsor US Air Force F-16 Demo Team
The most popular flying act at the Wings Over Alpena’s 2008 air show will be back in 2010 thanks to a Charter Communications sponsorship. Charter will be sponsoring “Viper West”, the US Air Force’s F-16 Demonstration Team. The team brings a pair of the F-16 fighters to the show, one of which will perform a fifteen-minute aerobatic display of the aircraft’s capabilities. In addition, a “Heritage Flight” is expected to accompany the F-16. The Heritage Flight program will bring a World War II-era fighter plane to fly alongside the F-16 near the end of its’ performance. For anyone who viewed the demonstration in 2008, the music & narration of the Heritage Flight is an emotional experience.
“Charter Communications is proud to support Wings over Alpena.” said Jesse
Morris, Charter’s Public Relations Coordinator, “This is a wonderful family
event and will be a fantastic boost to the local economy. We wish Wings Over
Alpena another successful and thrilling year!”
“Wings Over Alpena: A Tribute To World War II" is brought to the area by the
Alpena Boosters Club and is scheduled for Saturday, August 21, 2010.
“Sponsor Day" will be August 20 and offers special benefits for anyone
sponsoring the show. The show is free to the public and is completely
financed by local businesses and individuals. For more information on the
show, visit www.wingsoveralpena.com.

Wings Over Alpena 2010 will be featuring World War II memorabilia and biographies of those who served from the Alpena area.
