GENERAL:
What time do the
gates open?
The gates will open at 8:00 am to the general public.
Are there entry
restrictions?
All vehicles are subject to military search upon entering the air base.
What are the
radio frequencies used by the air show?
Alpena uses 121.35 as the air-to-air frequency (or CTAF when the tower is closed). Ground control is 120.90.
What is a static
display?
A static display is an aircraft on display at the show that attendees can view. Please keep in mind that spectators should never touch an aircraft on display unless instructed to do so by the aircraft attendant.
Where can I find
a schedule of acts?
You can view our tentative performers on our “Tentative Acts” page. Please note that our performers are subject to change.
Is there shade
available?
There will be a limited number of tents. Please remember to bring sunscreen to the show.
What happens if
it rains?
The show will go on rain or shine. Our flying acts need a 1,000’ ceiling to perform.
Are there first
aid facilities on-site?
Yes, there will be a first aid tent staffed by the ACC Nursing program.
How do I get
media credentials?
If you are a member of the local media contact Andy White (andy@wingsoveralpena.com) or Phil Agius (phil@wingsoveralpena.com) and submit your information including name, company, e-mail address and phone number. We will review your request and validate your credentials. Once validated, we will contact you with details for media opportunities.
Will the air show
be televised?
The show will not be televised but may be available as streaming video.
Will there be any
handicapped parking or provisions?
There will be a handicap parking area. Please make the gate attendant aware of your handicap license plate or certificate for further directions on parking.
What can we
expect to do and see at the show?
Private performers will be flying during the day as well as the US Air Force "A-10 East" demonstration team. There will be a large vending area where you can purchase food, drink and clothing. Laser Team Challenge will be on-site to challenge players to a game of laser tag. Tri City Party Rentals / StarLyte Productions will also be on-site with inflatables for the children. There is a charge to participate in laser tag and play on the inflatables.
Will there be any

CAN I BRING:
Are coolers
permitted?
Coolers are not permitted at the show. Your cooler and all contents will be confiscated by security if you attempt to bring it outside of your vehicle.
Are cameras and
video recorders allowed?
Yes, you may bring both into the show.
Are pets allowed?
House pets are not allowed on show grounds. Guide dogs for the sight-impaired are welcome in all areas except aircraft open to tours.
Can I bring a
bike, roller blades, or a scooter?
Wheeled vehicles, motorized or pedal, are not allowed on show grounds.
Can I bring
beverages into the show?
Beverages are not allowed on show grounds. There will be ample opportunities to purchase food and drink in the concession area at reasonable prices.
Can I bring a
stroller, diaper bag or infant supplies to the show?
Any supplies needed for infants or toddlers are allowed.
How much are tickets?
Wings Over Alpena is free to the public. No admission or parking fees are charged.
Is there an ATM
on site?
There will be no ATM on site at this years’ show.
How is the show
paid for?
Wings Over Alpena is free due to the fact that the Alpena CRTC has agreed to open its' gates to the public for the day. Private flying performers are sponsored by over 150 local businesses, individuals and grants. There are many benefits & unique opportunities for sponsors. Where do I park?
There are several parking areas at the show. Attendants will direct you to the proper parking areas.
Is there a
handicapped parking area at the show?
Yes, there is a separate lot for handicap parking. Please inform the gate attendant & bring sufficient proof to gain access to the handicap lot. A handicap license plate or permit is acceptable.
Can I park an RV
or motorhome at the show?
Yes, there will be a parking area for recreational vehicles.
Are there shuttle
rides to and from the parking lots?
We do not offer shuttle service.
Can we tailgate
prior to the show?
Anyone attempting to tailgate in the parking areas will be removed by security immediately.
Can I bring a
lawn chair or blanket?
You can bring a folding chair to the show.
Do you have any
reserved seating areas?
There will be some reserved seating areas purchased by local businesses.
Do you have any
bleacher seating?
There will be limited bleacher seating at the show.
How do I get to
the air show?
The Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center is located on Airport Road off of M-32 West, approximately 7 miles west of Alpena.
Is there public
transportation available to the show site?
There is no transportation available to the show.
Can I fly into
the air show?
Mark your GPS for KAPN & join us by air. The airspace will be closed from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm to general aviation traffic.
Can you direct me
to a place to stay during the weekend?
Wings Over Alpena is happy to recommend two of our sponsors, the Days Inn and Holiday Inn of Alpena. Both are huge supporters of the show and accommodate our performers. Who knows, you may run into one of our many performers during your stay!
